What are your favourite brands and why? As a graphic designer, other than the quality of products and services and price point, what draws my attention is the design elements such as the branding colours and font, product design, marketing materials and packaging, interior design and feel of their retail shop, online marketing, etc. Here are my top 3 favourite and inspiring brands that have extremely strong branding design and identity:
1. Club Monaco
Opened in Toronto, Canada in 1985, Club Monaco has always been one of my favourite and most inspiring clothing brands because of its black and white colours, and simple but stylish design. Club Monaco is now an international brand with stores in major cities in the world including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Stockholm, Hong Kong, Seoul, Beijing.
2. Muji
Originally from Japan in 1980, Muji in Japanese means “no-brand quality goods” which emphasizes on the good quality of their products. The interior design of their retail stores reflects their positioning which is simple and minimal with a mix of plain and natural look and feel. Their products include apparel, stationery, furniture, kitchenware, etc. Muji stores are now located around the globe in Asia, Europe, and North America.
3. Herschel Supply Co
Founded in 2009 and based in Vancouver, Canada, in less than 10 years Herschel Supply Co has been able to become a popular global accessory brand with outlets in North America, Europe, and Asia. The success of the brand is due to its quality, simple design, fine detail, and affordable pricing. Their website is a good representation of their branding and a real life example of how a brand achieves its goals through digital marketing instead of retail stores.
